Degrees & Certification Programs
The College of Education offers six (6) undergraduate degree programs in the following majors:
- Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Indigenous Teacher Preparation
- Multilingual/Multicultural (BLE/ESL) Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
Within Secondary Education, the College of Education collaborates with the College of Liberal Arts to offer 18 areas of specialization. Undergraduate students interested in teacher certification in art, music, or dance are admitted to the College of Fine Arts, completing additional coursework through the College of Education.
In addition to these undergraduate degrees, the college also prepares post-baccalaureate students who already have a bachelor's degree in a non-education field, for teacher certification by the state.
All students, undergraduate and post-baccalaureate, must seek admission to the professional Initial Teacher Certification Program (ITC). Admission to the professional program is competitive and there is a separate admission process required.
Undergraduate Degrees and Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Programs
Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA)
Candidates for teacher certification must successfully complete the appropriate examinations within the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments (AEPA) program as developed and approved by the Arizona State Board of Education. Title II of the Higher Education Act requires teacher preparation programs to report pass rates on all teacher certification/licensure examinations. In keeping with this requirement, Arizona State University, Main Campus results are available on-line at http://coe.asu.edu/aepa.
Section 207 of Title II of the Higher Education Act
Teacher Preparation Programs are required to publish the following Title II data: 1) institutional pass rates, 2) program information, 3) accreditation information and 4) notification of "low performing" if so designated by the state's Title II evaluation rubric. The Annual Institutional Questionnaire, submitted to the Arizona State Board of Education contains this information.
