Program Features
The TEACH+ME program leads to:
- An M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Elementary Education.
- An Institutional Recommendation from ASU for Elementary (K-8) Certification.
The program admits candidates once each academic year in the summer. The application deadline is March 1.
- The program begins with courses scheduled in the summer.
- The M.Ed. and requirements for teacher certification can be completed in one calendar year if attending classes on a full-time basis.
- Candidates may also complete the program at their own pace.
- Classes are scheduled primarily in the evenings.
- Classroom internships and professional development requirements prepare candidates for teaching and working in schools with a range of experiences.
- Student teaching is required with a mentor teacher for 12 consecutive weeks, full-time.
- An orientation to the program and to field experience is scheduled in late May before summer classes. This information will be provided to candidates after they are admitted to the Graduate College.
Program Costs
There is a cost benefit if a candidate chooses to participate full-time. Consult the Student Business Services website for the current fee schedule. Tuition for summer classes is different from the academic year.
Scholarships are available from both the college as well as from the ASU Graduate College and the ASU Student Financial Assistance offices. Please visit the college scholarship webpage for details. The Federal Government also offers loan forgiveness programs for students preparing to be teachers – consult our scholarship webpage for more information.
Field Experience and Student Teaching
- Candidates must participate in a classroom in the Phoenix Elementary School District to complete the required field experience and professional development requirements.
- Field experience is a concurrent requirement for methods classes.
